APRO company took part in the strategic session of the forum «Arctic: Present and Future»

10 December, as part of the XV International Forum «Arctic: Present and Future» named after A. N. Chilingarov, a strategic session titled «Challenging Waste: Building a Circular Economy in the Arctic» was held, dedicated to the development of a circular economy in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.

The session was moderated by Alexander Evgenievich Zakondyrin, Director of the Unified Scientific Center of the Federal State Budgetary Institution VNII «Ecology». Key changes in the waste management system, the role of regulatory requirements, as well as the consolidation of efforts by the state, business, and science to create sustainable circular economy infrastructure were discussed.

APRO presented its experience through a report by CEO Maria Chakhnina titled «Digital Framework for Waste Management in the Arctic: Data as the Basis of Efficiency».

In her presentation, Maria emphasized that extreme climatic conditions, the remoteness of territories, and restrictions on waste disposal make traditional approaches ineffective. Under these conditions, digital data become the foundation of management decisions: they make it possible to see actual waste flows, plan infrastructure and logistics, and monitor processes in «plan–fact» mode. A digital framework that includes automation, telemetry, and integration with government systems ensures transparency and controllability of all processes required for the industry to operate in the Arctic.

During the discussion, participants also addressed opportunities for scaling the experience of operating eco-industrial parks, the adequacy of processing capacities, the application of relaxed standards for municipal solid waste storage, and the development of environmental education for the population to promote separate waste collection.

APRO’s participation highlighted the importance of digital tools for building an efficient and sustainable waste management system in the Arctic.
